Police are searching for whoever stabbed a man who was found dead outside the Rose Bowl in Pasadena Monday night.

Officers responding to a man down call just after 10 p.m. found the victim and his vehicle in parking lot K outside the stadium, a news release from the Pasadena Police Department stated.

He was suffering from two stab wounds and died at the scene, according to the Police Department.

The victim, identified by the coroner's office as 22-year-old Demetrio Tapia Jr., was found about 10 to 15 feet from his vehicle, Lt. Marie Sell said.

Witnesses told investigators that the victim was involved in an altercation with his attacker. “It was not a random act that occurred here,” Police Department Lt. Jesse Carrillo said.

Officials closed the parking lot, which is near a popular jogging trail, for several hours during their investigation.

Video showed detectives walking side-by-side through the area Tuesday morning in a search for evidence.

Authorities are hoping surveillance video from the area will help in identifying the suspect, who fled the scene.

No motive for the attack has been determined.

"The family’s shocked," Brenda Cruz, who identified herself as a friend of the victim's, told KTLA. "They don’t believe it...I’m just really sad that he’s gone"

Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call Pasadena police at 626-744-4241. Those who wish to report information anonymously can contact Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
