A man was taken into custody Thursday morning on suspicion of attacking a female Metro bus driver in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles, authorities said.

Deputies responded about 4:20 a.m. to 1200 block of North Highland Avenue (map), according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Transit Services Bureau.

The bus was at a stop when the man struck the driver in the face and then fled the scene, the sheriff’s official said.

The driver, who suffered minor injuries, was seen holding an ice pack to her face before being loaded into a Los Angeles Fire Department ambulance and transported to a hospital.

The alleged assailant was detained shortly afterward and is facing a felony assault charge, according to officials.

It was unknown what prompted the incident, authorities said. Witnesses were cooperating with the investigation.
