A man on a motorized scooter was struck and killed by a vehicle in San Bernardino Monday night, officials said.

The incident was reported about 8:10 p.m. in the 1100 block of West Baseline Street, said Eillen Hards, San Bernardino Police spokeswoman said.

The man was heading north when he was struck by an SUV. He was declared dead at the scene, Hards said.

The driver of the vehicle stopped and remained at the scene, she said.

Bridget Cobb described the victim as a “good man” who always used the crosswalk along Baseline Street to cross the street.

She added that vehicles tend to speed in that area and don’t stop for pedestrians trying to cross in the crosswalk.

No further details about the crash were available.
