The incident was reported about 8 a.m. at 3440 East Chapman Ave. when the man walked in, brandished a handgun and demanded money, police officials said in a news release.

The employees gave the man an undisclosed amount of money and he then locked them in the freezer, police said.

The man left the area and was last seen on video surveillance walking west on Chapman Avenue. He was seen getting into a vehicle described as a 2011 to 2014 white Honda Civic, police said.

A Chipotle employee who did not want to be identified said that he was on his way to work when he got a call from a colleague who was inside the freezer.

“I tried to get her to calm down and tell me what was really going on,” he said.
“They were just terrified that it happened, they were crying non stop.”

The employees were able to open the freezer from the inside and did not suffer any injuries, police said.

The gunman is described as a black man who is about 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighs about 180 pounds. He was seen wearing a black hoodie, a white T-shirt, black basketball shorts with a white strip and a black bandana covering his face.
