A man died after he was shot in a residential neighborhood in Compton on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.
The shooting was reported about 5:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of West Almond Street, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials said.
“Detectives have learned that deputies assigned to Compton Station responded to the location regarding a gunshot victim call. Upon their arrival, they located the victim who suffered from at least one gunshot wound to the upper torso,” Deputy Erin Liu of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said in a written statement.
“The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead,”Liu said.
No further details were available.
A sheriff’s SWAT team was seen nearby, and sheriff’s officials advised the public to avoid the area of Compton Boulevard and Central Avenue to an “active scene,” the department said via social media.
It was not immediately clear whether the two incidents were related.
