A man’s body was recovered Sunday afternoon after it was found floating in a surf line at a beach in El Segundo, authorities said.

The discovery was reported about 4:15 p.m. near the 300 block of Vista Del Mar, according to an El Segundo Police Department sergeant. The area is just north of the city’s border with Manhattan Beach, near the El Segundo power plant.
Police officers, firefighters and lifeguards responded to the scene, the latter of whom pulled the deceased man to shore, said Spencer Parker, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s Lifeguard Division. The cause of the individual’s death was not immediately known.
He appeared to be in his 50s and was wearing swim trunks, El Segundo police said, adding that no swimmers had been reported missing from nearby cities.
Coroner’s officials were expected to determine the man’s identity.
