LANCASTER, Calif. (KTLA) — The destructive Powerhouse fire was 90 percent contained, authorities announced Saturday.

To date the fire had consumed 30,274 acres, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said.

The flames also destroyed at least 30 homes, according to Angeles National Forest spokeswoman Lisa Lugo.

The residences were in Lake Hughes, Lake Elizabeth and other nearby communities, Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Anthony Akins said.

Nearly 2,000 personnel were brought in to battle the blaze.

At one point, thousands of people were under evacuation orders as the flames advanced, fueled by hot temperatures and strong winds.

A shift toward cooler weather and calmer winds helped firefighters make headway against the flames.

Full containment was not expected until Monday. The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
