A male motorist who nearly drove off the side of Malibu Canyon Road made it out of the teetering vehicle only to be hit by a passing tour bus Saturday, authorities said.

Deputies from the Malibu-Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station responded around 4:30 p.m. to a crash on Malibu Canyon Road, about a half-mile south of the tunnel, according to a post on the Lost Hills Station’s Facebook page.

The disoriented motorist managed to exit the SUV before being struck by a tour bus, the post stated.

He was conscious and breathing when deputies arrived at the scene, according to officials. The man was taken to a local hospital in unknown condition for treatment.

“This is another reminder of the need to drive safely through the canyons of our beautiful area and to use extreme caution at the scene of a traffic collision,” the post read.

The incident is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.
