Two women have been arrested in connection with a shooting that claimed the life of a 61-year-old store clerk in North Hollywood over the weekend, LAPD announced Wednesday.
Los Angeles Police Department Officer Jenny Houser confirmed the arrests, but did not provide their names or any additional information.
The store clerk was found fatally shot at the A & D Liquor Mart located in the 12600 block of Sherman Way after officers responded to a call of a robbery in progress last Friday shortly before midnight, according to an LAPD news release.
Witnesses told police they saw a male and female enter the liquor store. The two apparently demanded something before the witnesses reported hearing a gunshot, the release stated.
They then ran out of the store, left the scene in a vehicle and were last seen fleeing southbound on Bellaire Avenue. The pair apparently did not get away with any cash or merchandise from the store.
The victim, who was shot in the upper torso, died at the scene. Authorities have not yet released his name.
It was not immediately clear if police were looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
The case is expected to be turned over to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office Thursday, according to Houser.
An investigation into the fatal shooting remains ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to call Detective Steve Castro of LAPD’s Valley Bureau Homicide at 818-374-1925.
