All lanes have reopened on the northbound 5 Freeway in Arleta area after a Saturday morning crash that left one pedestrian dead and another person hurt, officials said.

Authorities shut down the freeway after responding to the incident near Osborne Street just after 4:20 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Tony Polizzi told KTLA. All lanes had reopened by about 2:30 p.m., according to CHP.

One pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene while another was taken to the hospital, Polizzi said. Officials described the person who died as a woman, the Los Angeles Times reported.

It’s unclear why the two were on the freeway, according to CHP.

A SigAlert was issued around 4:40 a.m.

Authorities did not have further information about the circumstances surrounding the crash, nor whether or not any arrest has been made.

KTLA’s Matt Phillips contributed to this report.
