A 22-year-old man was arrested Monday on suspicion of animal cruelty after four small dogs were found with various injuries at a Palmdale home, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Family members awoke shortly before 1 a.m. to a loud commotion on the first floor of a residence in the 5800 block of Saint Laurent Drive and discovered Andres Garcia allegedly kicking and chasing the dogs, a Facebook post from the Sheriff’s Department stated.
The suspect also lived at the house, sheriff’s officials said.
After trying and failing to stop Garcia, the family called the Sheriff’s Department to report a disturbance. Responding deputies from the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station arrived and found four small dogs in the backyard “who appeared to be traumatized,” according to the post.
One dog was found with several lacerations and apparently had its hind legs broken. Another canine discovered with neck trauma also had blood coming from its mouth, authorities said.
The Sheriff’s Department did not have information on the condition of the two other small dogs.
Garcia was arrested on suspicion of cruelty to animals, according to the Sheriff’s Department. He was booked at the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station, and his bail was set at $20,000.
An arraignment in the case was scheduled for Sept. 2 at the Antelope Valley Courthouse.
Animal Control was handling the ongoing investigation.
