Authorities Saturday were searching for the driver of a “party bus” that struck a man and dragged him more than 200 feet in a hit-and-run collision in Norwalk.
The 26-year-old victim was walking on Fairford Avenue, just south of Ratliffe Street (map), about 2:31 a.m. when he was hit by the southbound bus, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
A witness told investigators that he heard music coming from inside the vehicle at the time and saw its interior neon lights flashing. Such vehicles are rented to groups for bachelor and bachelorette parties, birthdays, proms and other events.
The black bus was last seen turning westbound on Foster Road, the release said.
The victim, whose name was not released by officials, suffered major injuries in the crash, the Sheriff’s Department said. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was admitted to an intensive-care unit.
Anyone who was on the bus or might have seen it is urged to call the sheriff’s Norwalk station at 562-863-8711. To remain anonymous, call “Crime Stoppers” by dialing 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or texting the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or by visiting lacrimestoppers.org.
