Paul McCartney took the stage for an outdoor concert on Hollywood Boulevard Monday, thanks to late-night host Jimmy Kimmel.

Paul McCartney takes the stage in Hollywood on Monday.

Hundreds of giddy fans turned out for the show, but drivers in the area encountered a significant traffic jam as a result of street closures near Kimmel’s studio in Hollywood, near the El Capitan Theater.

The free concert will help kick off the fall season of “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” which issued tickets for the event.

Before taking the stage, McCartney appeared as a guest – his first time on the show – when “Kimmel” taped at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Justin Timberlake is slated to perform on Tuesday.

Passes for Timberlake’s concert were still available online Monday morning.

Hollywood Boulevard will remain closed between Highland Avenue and Orange Drive until 6 a.m. Wednesday morning, authorities said.
