A person was pronounced dead at the scene of a shooting just outside at a liquor store in South L.A. Saturday night, with another five people injured by gunshots, according to Los Angeles Fire Department officials.

Two of the people hurt were left in critical condition, said Margaret Stewart, a spokesperson for L.A. Fire Department. The shooter or shooters are still at large and no suspect descriptions have been released by authorities.

Officers were called to the scene in the 900 block of West 88th Street in the Vermont Vista neighborhood at about 8:16 p.m., she said.

Witnesses at the scene told KTLA they heard around 15 gunshots after a group of people drove up in a vehicle, possibly two, and opened fire on another group just outside the Monarch Liquor Market. Two men had gotten out of the vehicle(s) and started shooting before getting back inside and driving off, according to the witnesses.

No further information has been released by authorities.
