A man was detained as a “person of interest”  Sunday after his mother, a woman in her 60s, was found dead at a Laguna Beach home, authorities said. A friend who was supposed to go to church with the woman found her body and called police to the upscale mobile home neighborhood shortly before 11 a.m., the Laguna Beach Police Department said. The discovery on 30802 Coast Highway launched a homicide investigation, Laguna Beach Police Sgt. Jim Cota told KTLA. The person of interest, who police described as the woman’s son but have not identified, was found and detained in San Clemente. Police said he was either involved in the woman’s death or knows what happened to her. Detectives said officers found obvious signs of trauma and “potential foul play” at the scene. Video showed police cars surrounding a home cordoned off with police tape in the seaside Laguna Terrace Park community. Social media users who said they lived nearby reported hearing screaming coming from the home. No further details were immediately available. It was unclear how the woman died.
