A school police officer shot and wounded a female carjacking suspect after she struck him with a stolen pickup truck in the Westlake District on Friday, officials said. The shooting was reported around 2:48 p.m. in the area of 3rd and Alvarado streets in the Westlake District. Julie Spry, a Los Angeles Unified School District AUSD spokeswoman, told KTLA the school officer sustained non-life threatening injuries. The suspect was taken into custody, Spry added. An update on her condition was not available. The string of events began just before 3 p.m. when a woman in a stolen mini van crashed into another vehicle at 3rd and Bonnie Brae streets, police said. She then allegedly ran across the street and carjacked a Chevrolet Avalanche in a supermarket parking lot. After striking another innocent motorist, the woman drove the stolen Chevrolet to 3rd and Alvarado streets, where she made a U-turn and crashed the pickup truck into a pedestrian,  then an SUV, and continued driving, authorities said. Witnesses told KTLA the woman then rammed the wall of a building, as well as a parked car, as a bystander flagged down the LAUSD officer for help. The officer was struck by the Avalanche, officials said. He opened fire on the suspect. “That female was stuck by gunfire. She fell to the ground. She was taken to a local hospital where she received treatment,” LAPD Detective Meghan Aguilar said. At least three people struck by the suspect during the incident were taken to hospitals, along with the officer, officials said. One was in serious condition, however, updates on their conditions were not available Friday night. The suspect’s identity was not available. KTLA’s Claire Legeron contributed to this story.
