Police pursued a slow-speed driver who was believed to have an outstanding warrant in El Monte Monday night.
The pursuit began around 7:15 p.m. near Ranchito Street and Cypress Avenue (map), El Monte Police Department Sgt. Eric Sanchez said.
Officers initially attempted to pull over the vehicle for a code violation, but later discovered the license plate was connected to an outstanding warrant, he said.
The vehicle drove over a spike strip, damaging multiple tires and causing them to fall off, Sky5 aerial video showed.
The driver stopped and was detained near Peck Road and Elliot Avenue (map) around 8:10 p.m.
About 20 to 30 bicyclists followed the nearly hourlong chase and hundreds of people gathered to watch the driver be detained.
We are in pursuit, we are asking for the publics help by staying away from the area or making contact with the driver.
