A man who got stuck in a sewer pipe in Wilmington was safely rescued Thursday afternoon, fire officials said.

Authorities received a call about a person trapped 50 feet into a sewer pipe in the 24900 block of Baypoint Avenue at 12:14 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. By 2:30 p.m., the man was rescued and was being evaluated by paramedics, authorities said.

Firefighters established communication with the patient by 1 p.m. and he appeared OK but trapped, fire officials said.

More than a dozen firefighters set up equipment assisting with the rescue in a residential area, Sky5 video showed.

Earlier, the Fire Department said it expected the response to last for an “extended duration.”
