One home-invasion robbery suspect was killed and another was wounded when a resident opened fire in Pico Rivera Friday morning, authorities said.
The incident occurred about 1:20 a.m. in the 8400 block of Serapis Avenue, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
A resident inside the home retrieved a handgun when he heard a window break and discovered someone was trying to enter his home, Sheriff’s Department Lt. Hall said.
That suspect was shot and wounded by the resident, who then went outside to investigate, Hall said.
While outside on his patio, the resident encountered a second suspect.
That suspect was also shot after making a move toward his waistband, the resident told investigators. The suspects were both described as males.
The second suspect died at the scene while the other got into a getaway car and was driven to a nearby hospital while suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso.
The getaway driver, described as a female, was detained for questioning after the hospital called authorities, Hall said.
The wounded suspect was transferred to another hospital to undergo surgery.
The resident who shot the suspects is being interviewed but was not in custody, Hall said.
