Pregerson was struck by a car on Chautauqua Boulevard, north of Borgos Place in Pacific Palisades (map) on Dec. 27, 2013, according to a news release from Los Angeles City Councilman Mike Bonin’s office.

A passerby found the injured Pregerson lying in some bushes at about 4 a.m., according to Sgt. Stephanie Krajchir of the Los Angeles Police Department.

No one involved in the incident stayed behind or called 911, according to police.

Pregerson, whose father and grandfather are federal court judges, was taken to UCLA Medical Center, where he died of his injures on Dec. 31.

On Wednesday, Bonin stood with family member to announce a $50,000 reward, which matches a $50,000 reward offered by the victim’s family, for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the driver involved in the crash that killed Pregerson.

At a City Council meeting where the reward was approved, Pregerson’s father had a warning for those who may know something but aren’t coming forward to talk to police.

“If you perpetrate this tragedy further by protecting people, then we will spend the rest of our lives trying to find you,” said U.S. District Court Judge Dean Pregerson.

A recent graduate of UCLA, David Pregerson was an aspiring film producer, according to the news release.

Anyone with information was asked to contact LAPD homicide detectives at 213-382-9470, or to call the LAPD’s after-hours number at 877-527-3247 (877-LAPD-24-7).
