A woman who went missing in 2009 and whose body was found six years later sealed into the wall of a Lomita-area apartment was killed by her roommate with a hammer, according to authorities.

Randolph E. Garbutt, 43, was charged Monday with murder in the death of Raven Campbell, who was 31 when she vanished.

The complaint against Garbutt alleges that he used a hammer in Campbell’s killing.

Her body was found in July after a detective received a tip that her remains were in the wall of an apartment in a public housing complex where she had lived with her friend, the friend’s boyfriend, and Garbutt, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department lieutenant said Friday.

Garbutt was scheduled to be arraigned in Torrance court on Monday, the District Attorney’s Office announced.

Campbell died of blunt force trauma to the head, the lieutenant said Friday.

Prosecutors planned to ask that Garbutt be held on $1 million bail.
