A man who lives at a daycare center in Santa Ana was arrested in connection with alleged sex crimes involving at least three young girls, police announced Friday.

Larry Montanez, 63, was taken into custody Wednesday and booked for the sexual assault of three girls which allegedly took place at a home located in the 2100 block of south Cedar Street, which doubles as Anne's Daycare, the Santa Ana Police Department reported.

The three girls were under the age of 10 when the assaults began in 2013. Police said the most recent assault happened Tuesday and involved a six-year-old girl.

"My understanding was one child witnessed this, and told the six-year-old that she needed to report it and the next day they reported it," Santa Ana police Corporal Anthony Bertagna said.

Police began the investigation after the daycare's owner, who is the sister of Montanez, tipped off police.

Montanez lived at the residential daycare center and had access to children for many years.

Detectives believe there may be more victims.

Anyone with information about Montanez and his alleged crimes were asked to call the Santa Ana Police Special Crimes detectives at 714-245-8351.
