A man was shot and wounded by a sheriff’s deputy Saturday afternoon in Norwalk, authorities said.
The shooting occurred at 4:16 p.m. near the intersection of Fairford Avenue and Foster Road, said Sgt. Pauline Panis of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The man was conscious and breathing when Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel arrived. He was then transported to a hospital, authorities said. His condition was not immediately known.
No deputies were injured in the encounter, Panis said.
The circumstances that led to the shooting were unknown, but a gun was reportedly recovered at the scene.
Detectives with the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau were dispatched to the scene to open an investigation, a standard procedure whenever a deputy-involved shooting occurs.
