The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. Friday in the 3300 block of West Jefferson Boulevard (map), according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The victim was “brutally” stabbed on the sidewalk outside of a convenience store, the LAPD said. Paramedics attempted to save the man’s life but he succumbed to his wounds, police said.

He was identified by family members as William Jennings, 35, a resident of the Jefferson Park.

Relatives said Jennings, who had just returned home after attending his wife’s office Christmas party, had been walking to a nearby store when the stabbing occurred.

“This was a married man, a working man, a family man, a young man, ambitious man,” a friend and co-worker, who declined to be identified by name, told KTLA.

Jennings was a plumber and former Los Angeles city lifeguard, and a father of two, the friend said.

No arrests have been made, according to police.

Detectives from the LAPD Southwest Division were interviewing witnesses and planned to review security cameras in the area, police said.

Anyone with information was urged to contact the LAPD.
