A South Gate man has pleaded not guilty to killing his girlfriend after a Fourth of July gathering, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday.
Oscar Rodriguez Jr. was charged with murder on Wednesday.
The incident was reported about 4:20 a.m. Monday in the 5200 block of Brookdale Road, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The victim was transported to a hospital with ”suspicious traumatic injuries,” officials said.
The woman, later identified as Nancy Molina, 33, eventually succumbed to her injuries, the DA’s office said in a news release on Thursday. Her death had not been previously reported by sheriff’s officials.
Officials questioned Rodriguez about the incident and he was arrested in connection with Molina’s death.
He remains in custody on $2 million bail.
He faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
