Two people were detained Tuesday morning in connection with a stabbing in Orange that left one man hospitalized.

The incident was reported just after 8:30 p.m. Monday in the 100 block of East Chapman Avenue, Orange Police Department Sgt. Phil McMullin said.

The victim had suffered a single stab wound to his chest and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, Sgt. Scott Jorgensen said.

The victim, who was said to be in his mid 20s, was listed in critical but stable condition. It was unclear exactly what type of weapon was used to stab the man.

Investigators initially believed the attack was random but later stated that the victim may have known his attacker. "There was some connection that caused this confrontation to occur ... it does not appear that it was a random attack," McMullin said.

He later confirmed that two people were being questioned and detained in connection with the stabbing.

No identities have been released.

East Chapman Avenue was closed between Glassell Street and South Orange Street during the investigation.
