A Starbucks employee in Bellflower was fired after she admitted stealing a customer’s credit card information, according to the company.
Customer Juana Martinez said she caught the cashier in the act and then later confronted her on video.
The teenager appeared stunned at first, but finally admitted stealing the information, the video showed. Martinez said the girl was caught on surveillance video using the card to run up a $200 bill at a Ralphs supermarket.
The girl offered Martinez money and begged her not to call the police, Martinez said.
“I’m sorry that I took money from you and your kids,” the employee said in the video. “I’m sorry that you had to come up here. I’m sorry that this is inconvenient for you … I am a good child. I swear I am really good. I really do go to school. I’m 19. I play soccer.”
Martinez reportedly decided not to press charges against the girl after learning she had been fired.
“We were extremely troubled to learn of this incident, and we have been working directly with the customer to address this situation. We value our customers’ trust, and this experience was completely unacceptable. We will support local authorities in any investigation,” a Starbucks spokesperson told KTLA via email. “At this point, I can confirm that this partner (employee) no longer works for Starbucks.”
