Suspicious Package Cleared After Partial Evacuation at LAX

A suspicious package that turned out to be a bag holding clothes prompted the partial evacuation of the new international terminal at LAX Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

The new Tom Bradley International Terminal opened to the public on Sept. 18, 2013.

The partial evacuation was occurring about 1 p.m., according to Sgt. Belinda Nettles, a spokeswoman for Los Angeles Airport Police.

The suspicious package turned out the be a bag containing clothing, Nettles said. The item was cleared at 1:30 p.m., she said.

Video posted to Twitter just before 1 p.m. appeared to show passengers cordoned off from an area of the Tom Bradley International Terminal, which just reopened with a $1.9 billion redesign.
