A 14-year-old was suspected of accidentally shooting and killing his younger brother in Perris on Saturday, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department officials said.

A 9-year-old boy was fatally shot in the 140 block of Metz Road (map) around 12:10 p.m., deputy Patty Stoyer said.

Stoyer did not know if the shooting was inside of a home, or if any adults were present.

A neighbor said the boys had thrown a party the night before, and a gun was fired.

“They were throwing a party, and then it got crazy and I guess they were like doing some gunshots yesterday and they woke up … around noon and then …
I’m guessing he played around, like, a gun and then he, like, shot him,” neighbor Victor Velosco said.

The 9-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation was underway, but the shooting death was believed to be accidental, Stoyer said.
