An 18-year-old man was arrested Sunday by deputies responding to a call of a sexual assault at a home in Hesperia, the Sheriff’s Department announced Tuesday.

When deputies arrived at the home, they found Charles Toland and an unidentified female, who was lying on the floor in another room, according to a news release from the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department.
The victim’s hands, feet and mouth were bound with duct tape, the release stated. She had suffered substantial injuries and told deputies she had been raped and beaten by the suspect for several hours.
Toland, of Las Vegas, had been acquainted with the victim’s family several years ago, according to the release.
He allegedly asked the victim for a place to stay for the night after just moving back to town.
She agreed to let him come to her home, which was where the alleged attack took place, investigators said.
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Toland was arrested and booked on suspicion of torture, kidnapping for the purpose of rape, penetration with a foreign object and attempted murder, according to the release.
Anyone with information about Toland or the attack was asked to contact Detective Williams at the Hesperia Station at 760-947-1500 or remain anonymous by contacting We Tip at 800-78-Crime.
