The girl claimed that two men men walked up behind her and knocked her to the ground near the school located in the 20400 block of Victor Street.

She told police the second man rummaged through the girl’s belongings before both men fled with about $5.

After a "thorough investigation," police said they determined the alleged crime did not occur and that the girl admitted she made a false report.

"The Torrance Police Department discourages false reporting from persons of all ages, but more importantly, is relieved this student was not victimized," officials said in an updated news release.

They added that police officials will partner with the Torrance Unified School District to follow up with the girl and her parents.
