A 41-year-old man pleaded no contest Tuesday in the 2015 killing of a AAA contract tow-driver who was fatally stabbed while helping a customer in Pico Rivera.

Tobias Ruben Cabrera, whom investigators had described as a transient, pleaded to one count of second-degree murder and admitted he was a felon previously convicted in 2001 of corporal injury or a partner with a firearm.
Cabrera is scheduled to be sentenced Jan 31. in the June 2, 2015, death of Raymond Zabala, according to the the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Zabala was helping a woman with her car when Cabrera approached and stabbed him with a knife.
The Sheriff’s Department, which investigated, said Cabrera rode up on a bicycle and stabbed Zabala in the neck.
Zabala died at the scene; Cabrera fled on the bike and was arrested several days later.
