The crash occurred around 8:45 p.m. on the connector between the 710 and 10 freeways, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Initial reports indicated the driver of the Foothill Transit Silver Streak fell asleep at the wheel, the Highway Patrol said.

The bus, carrying 13 passengers, struck the wall, skidded across all lanes of traffic and crashed into the freeway’s center wall before coming to rest in the carpool lane, Battalion Chief John Cermak of the Alhambra Fire Department told the L.A. Times.

Eight people, including the driver, were transported to four area hospitals, according to fire officials.

No word on the extent of their injuries.

The Silver Streak travels from Montclair Transit Center to downtown Los Angeles.
