One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other died on the way to the hospital, police said. They were identified as brothers Jason Montes, 24, and Justin Montes, 25.

They were standing on the sidewalk when multiple gunshots were fired at them, the spokesman said, adding it was unknown if the shooting was gang-related.

The motive was not clear, and no suspect description was available, Lopez said. A vehicle was seen speeding away from the area.

About a mile away, a second shooting happened at 11th and South Palos Verdes streets about 11:45 p.m., LAPD spokesman Officer Drake Madison said.

A 38-year-old man was walking to a home when a gunman approached and shot him. The victim was transported to a hospital in stable condition.

That shooting is believed to be gang-related, and no description of the shooter was available, Madison said.
