Woman, 2 Children Found Dead Inside Ontario Home Following Standoff With Police

Two children and a woman who allegedly shot and injured a man, who’s believed to be her husband, were found dead inside an Ontario home after a standoff with police, officials said Saturday. The woman, a San Bernardino County probation officer, had barricaded herself inside the residence after officers responded to the scene in the 1300 block of East F Street, near Del Norte Avenue, regarding a 911 call at about 2:30 a.m., Sgt. Bill Russell told KTLA. Officers arrived to find a man with gunshot wounds, Russell said. The sergeant earlier said that the woman shot at authorities, but the Police Department later said it’s unclear if she used a gun when the two responding officers confronted her. Authorities indicated that the officers opened fire during the encounter. Police said it also appeared that the woman never exited the home, contrary to what they previously said. Just before 8 a.m., Ontario police reported entering the home and discovering the bodies of the suspected shooter and two minors. Officials have not confirmed how they died or whether or not they recovered a weapon. They also did not disclose the woman’s relationship with the children and their identities. Police described the children as a teen girl and an elementary school-age boy. Meanwhile, none of the officers suffered any injuries, Russell said. The male victim, believed to have been shot twice by his wife, was taken to the hospital, according to police. His condition was not immediately clear later Saturday. A neighbor who identified himself as Jason said he had heard what sounded like five or six gunshots following an argument. That’s when they called the authorities, the man said. Police previously urged residents to stay away from the scene as they try to persuade the suspected shooter to surrender. “Let us handle the situation,” Russell said. “It is very tense.” Officials provided no further details about the incident.
