The woman was killed near South Main and East 21st streets in South L.A.’s Historic South-Central neighborhood, Los Angeles Police Department’s Mike Lopez said around 10:30 a.m.

However, fire officials responded to a nearby location, South San Pedro and East 21st streets, and transported a person from that area to a hospital, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The second location was where two police officers responded to reports of an unruly woman armed with a knife, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The officers were confronted by a woman holding an 8-inch blade and a shooting occurred.

“Our understanding is that both officers discharged their weapons,” LAPD Sgt. Frank Preciado told the Times.

The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The incident was captured on police body cameras and likely security cameras in the area, the newspaper reports.

KTLA’s Jelani Rice and Steve Bien contributed to this report.
