Homicide detectives are investigating a stabbing in Palmdale that left a grandmother dead and her daughter injured on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

Both victims were found around 3:30 p.m. in the 37000 block of Springfield Street, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The 82-year-old grandmother was allegedly attacked by her 29-year-old grandson, deputies said. The grandson is also accused of stabbing of his mother.

"While responding deputies were driving down the street, the came across a male Hispanic who was covered in blood," said Sgt. Troy Ewing with the LASD. "He appeared to be incoherent. He was rambling on according to deputies that were talking to him. He did make some statements incriminating himself and being involved in the incident."

Neighbors told KTLA the grandson lived with the grandmother for the past few years, while his mother lived in a different home.

"He was a calm guy. He was always helping the grandma out and everything," said Natalia Guardado, a neighbor. "I think he just snapped. Something must have set him off."

The grandmother was pronounced dead at the scene, the release stated. The victim's name has not yet been released.

The mother was rushed to a hospital and is expected to survive, according to officials.

The Sheriff's Department has not identified the grandson, nor the motive for the attack.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the sheriff's Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
