Police responded to reports around 6:30 a.m. of a woman being shot in a vehicle, Officer Madison said.

A woman was found inside a vehicle on James M Wood Boulevard between South Harvard Boulevard and South Kingsley Drive, police on scene said.

A man who appeared to be suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound was later located about two blocks away on West Olympic Boulevard.

Officer Liliana Preciado initially said the man had died, but Officer Aareon Jefferson later said he was critically injured.

Both were transported to a local hospital, where the woman was pronounced dead.

Her identity was not immediately released, but police said she was 39 years old and lived in the area.

The pair had a history of domestic disputes, and police said they were in a relationship but did not provide additional details.

Investigators remained at the James M Wood scene as of 9 a.m., and the street was closed from Harvard to Kingsley.
