A verbal dispute in a Long Beach parking lot left a woman not believed to be part of the conflict dead early Saturday morning, according to police.

Officers responded to an area in the 300 block of Pacific Avenue around 2 a.m. after some heard what sounded like gunshots, police officials said. There, officers found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds to her upper torso.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police later said the victim was not believed to be part of a verbal altercation that had broke out between two groups of people just prior to the shooting. She has been identified as 24-year-old Anna Perez.

The suspect was seen leaving the area in a dark-colored sedan, police said.

No other details about the shooting have been released by police while homicide detectives continue to investigate.

A GoFundMe campaign set up to help raise funds for Perez’s funeral had raised more than $4,500 of its $5,000 goal by Monday evening.
