“We believe that Gavin Smith was murdered.” says Lt. Dave Dolson / Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department

And with that …a 10 month missing person case becomes a Hollywood murder mystery.

Who killed 20th Century Fox executive Gavin Smith – and why?

The 57 year old husband and father disappeared after leaving a friend’s house in Oak Park last May.

Now investigators say they found his 2000 black Mercedes-Benz, similar to the one pictured here, in a storage facility in Simi Valley.

They say a tip led them to that location… and apparently… a wealth of evidence.

“Based upon the condition of the vehicle and based upon information we have gathered from witnesses who are cooperating, we believe that this case is a homicide case,” says Lt. Dolson.

If anyone was home at the Smith residence in West Hills today, they did not answer.

Gavin’s wife Lisa has talked to KTLA in the past.  She has said that foul play in her husband’s disappearance, would not surprise her.

“He would never abandon me. He would never abandon our family. I just don’t know what happened,” Lisa Smith told KTLA.

Detectives may have some strong theories.

They say the storage facility where they found the Mercedes is linked to John Creech, a man currently in the Men’s Central Jail on an unrelated drug conviction.

According to reports, Creech’s wife was having an affair with Gavin Smith and Creech was a free man at the time Smith disappeared.

Still – police are not calling the convict a murder suspect, at least publicly.

“He remains a person of interest at this point. He’s been a person of interest for several months,” Says Lt. Dolson.
