A golden retriever was recovering after eating some of the heroin a suspected drug dealer allegedly threw over a fence while running from police in Denver earlier in the week.

The incident happened Tuesday when police approached a person believed to be selling drugs near the Bark and Play doggy daycare facility, local television station KMGH reported.

The person ran from officers before allegedly tossing several bags filled with the drug over a fence leading to the dog’s playground area, the television station reported.

Surveillance video showed a golden retriever named Charlie ate a whole bag of the heroin.

“She’s high on heroin,” the daycare center told Laura, who is Charlie’s owner. “We’re treating her but you need to come as soon as you can.”

Garett Bishop, the owner of Bark and Play, told KMGH he counted 17 bags of heroin in the dog’s playroom area.

“You can see her chewing on it as she walks away,” Bishop said while looking at the video.

Charlie was treated at a vet with charcoal and Narcan, and was doing better since the incident, according to KMGH.

“The employee saved her life,” Laura told the station. “I could have lost my dog yesterday because some stupid idiot decided to sell drugs, run from the police and throw them.”

The suspected drug dealer was in custody and facing possible drug charges, according to KMGH.

Correction: The headline initially stated the dog ate all 17 bags of heroin. The post has been corrected.
