A photo of a critically injured puppy being comforted by a fellow shelter dog in South Carolina, has gone viral.

The 3-month-old boxer puppy named “Sammie” was shot, dragged behind a car and spray painted, according to a post on a You Caring fundraising page set up by Rescue Dogs Rock NYC.

After Sammie arrived at the Paws & Claws Animal Clinic in Columbia, Simon, a border collie suffering from mange and neglect, befriended the puppy, according to the post.

“A perfect example, which shows us that our companion animals do feel pain and show compassion for others,” the post read.

A photo posted on the You Caring page showed Simon appearing to reach out to Sammie.

“Sammie accepted Simon’s soft touch and was grateful for the love and affection that Simon showed him,” the post stated.

Sammie, who suffered two broken legs, has already undergone one successful surgery.

Simon and Sammie have become inseparable and are both on the road to recovery, according to the clinic.
