A mother apparently shot her young daughter to death in a Louisiana home before turning the gun on herself Sunday, authorities said.

The bodies of 26-year-old Nakesha Carrere and 5-year-old Abigail Creamer were discovered just before noon by the child’s father in the 900 block of Burma Road in Thibodaux, according to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Both were found to have been shot once in the head, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
A detailed letter, which investigators believe was written by Carrere, was found in the home. The contents of the letter have not been disclosed.
Authorities are investigating the double shooting as a murder-suicide, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
“This is a tragic incident, and we extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family,” Sheriff Craig Webre said in the release. “Investigators are still processing evidence, but we are confident in our determination of a murder-suicide.”
