New York City police arrested a man Friday who allegedly reached into the bra of a 93-year-old woman in a wheelchair and stole her envelope of cash.
Broyoan Lopez, 26, has been charged with two counts of robbery, grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, police said, according to KTLA sister station WPIX in New York.
Lopez allegedly stole from the victim, Maria Vasquez, when she was at a clothing store in the East Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan on Thursday. She had planned to buy a pair of shoes with the help of her attendant, WPIX reported.
Lopez allegedly walked up behind Vasquez, grabbed the envelope with $600 inside and and fled.
The attendant turned around when the Vasquez yelled a moment later and searched for the envelope. The thief had already fled the store.
Vasquez had just taken the money out of the bank, she told WPIX.
It was not immediately clear if Vasquez's money was recovered, but concerned New Yorkers launched a GoFundMe page to donate money to Vasquez, raising more than $1,900.
