A photograph that captured a U.S. Marine’s emotional moment with his bride-to-be before their wedding in North Carolina has gone viral, and now he’s sharing the story behind the image.
The picture shows Marine Cpl. Caleb Earwood holding the hand of his future wife, Maggie Earwood. The pair are on different sides of a door frame and looking in opposite directions.
Earwood decided the couple should pray before the ceremony on Saturday, but wanted to avoid breaking the wedding tradition of the groom not seeing the bride before she walked down the aisle, according to CNN.
In order to block the view, the couple decided to take a moment together with a doorway between them.
The touching moment was captured by Dwayne Schmidt, who happened to be outside the cabin at the time, CNN reported.
Schmidt then posted the photo to his Facebook page over Memorial Day weekend, where the image subsequently went viral. As of Tuesday morning, it had been shared more than 6,400 times and received more than 41,000 “likes.”
“I have photographed alot of weddings,” Schmidt wrote in the post. “This has to be one of the best things i have ever got to see much less photograph..Before the ceremony and before they saw each other Caleb said a prayer for their marriage and lives. AWESOME !!!”
