A young mother who once appeared on the MTV show “16 and Pregnant” was receiving praise after she posted on Facebook about her 6-year-old son treating her to dinner.

Nearly 3 million users have liked the Jan. 1 post, in which Nikkole Paulun discussed a “dinner date” she and her son recently went on.

Paulun wrote that the “dates” are a monthly occurrence. She said her son “opens doors for me, pulls out my chair, talks about his day & asks me how mine was, pays the bill with money he earned by doing chores, and even tips the waiter/waitress.”

The young mother said she makes sure she and her son put their cellphones and iPads away, and have real conversations at the dinner table.

By doing so, Paulun wrote she was hoping to teach him proper table manners, “and that it’s rude to sit on your phone on a date with your mom or with anyone else.”

Above all, she expressed hope that she could teach her son how treat and respect others, especially women.

“By doing this I am teaching him how to treat a lady & how to take her on a proper date … As a woman who has been abused & treated like crap in the past, it’s extremely important to me that I teach my son how to show respect. Too many men these days have no idea how to treat women or how to take them on a nice date. It’s nice to know my son won’t be one of them,” she wrote.

Paulun has received some criticism for allowing her son to pay for dinner, but she responded by telling them she doesn’t force her son.

“He prefers to spend his money doing something special with me than to spend money on toys,” she said, replying to one commenter’s critical remark.

By Tuesday morning, the post had gone viral, having been shared more than 500,000 times.
