An Oregon man playing “Pokemon Go” was so determined to “catch ’em all” that he continued on with the game even after he was stabbed earlier this week, he told a Portland-area television station.
Michael Baker, 21, was catching Pokemon characters in Forest Grove around 1 a.m. Monday when he saw another man walking in the area and approached him, according to KPTV.
“I saw him go by and asked if he was playing ‘Pokemon Go.’ He was like ‘what?’ I guess he wanted to battle because he came up at me with a knife,” Baker told the station.
After being stabbed, Baker decided against going to the hospital immediately because he wanted to continue hunting for Pokemon, and to get food and drink.
“Right after I was stabbed, I continued my mission to Plaid Pantry for my mission for chips and beer,” Baker said. “I basically risked my life.”
The victim made it to the convenience store, where he bought the items and looked for Pokemon, according to a police report obtained by local newspaper The Oregonian.
He initially refused treatment when police arrived at the scene, electing to keep on playing the game instead, the report stated.
Baker eventually received medical attention for the wound, which resulted in eight stitches. He told the station that while he intends to be more cautious when playing the popular smartphone app in the future, he will continue his mission to be the best “Pokemon Go” player.
“It’s important to me. I’ve got to basically catch them all,” he said.
His attacker has not been arrested, police told the KPTV.
