SANTA ANA, Calif. (KTLA) — Police are investigating a stabbing Tuesday night in Santa Ana that left a young woman dead.

The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Maris Isabelle Cerrillo, a resident of Santa Ana.

Police responded to calls around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday from residents in the 200 block of Laurel Street.

Cerrillo was found stabbed multiple times in an alley between Laurel and Jackson streets.

She is not from the neighborhood, and investigators are trying to determine how she ended up there, Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the stabbing occurred in the alley or if Cerrillo was killed elsewhere and her body was then dumped in the alley.

“I just saw her last night,” said family friend Erica Calvo. “I feel like she’s gonna walk out of her room again… It’s not gonna be possible now.”

Calvo said that Cerrillo had her whole life ahead of her and wanted to go back to school.

At this point, police do not have a motive for the stabbing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Santa Ana Police Department at (714) 245-8665.
