A sheriff’s dive team has recovered the body of a 20-year-old man who was reported missing after he failed to return to a cabin rental in Lake Arrowhead, officials confirmed Sunday.
Dawson Hartwig, who is the son of San Bernardino County Fire Chief Mark A. Hartwig, was found about 1:10 a.m. Sunday in 30 feet of water near the Yacht Club in Lake Arrowhead, sheriff’s officials confirmed.
Hartwig left a rented cabin Friday evening on Burnt Mill Road and told friends he was going for a walk.
Friends of Hartwig called the Twin Peaks Sheriff Station on Saturday morning after he did not return to the cabin, officials said.
Hartwig left his phone and personal property behind, officials said.
More than 70 San Bernardino sheriff’s deputies, search and rescue volunteers, K9’s and dive team members searched for Hartwig over the weekend.
No other information was immediately released.
