Authorities have arrested a man wanted in connection with the kidnapping of a woman while she was trying to board a bus in East Los Angeles on Monday.  

The woman was boarding a Montebello Transit bus in the 3800 block of East Third Street at about 8:38 p.m. when she was “confronted from behind” by a man, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release. 

Surveillance footage shows a passenger and the bus driver tried to step in to help, but the man broke a window on the bus and pointed a handgun at the driver, then “appeared to coerce the female into” a nearby white Honda Civic, authorities said.

Teachers are planning at least two protests after the Temecula Valley School Board in California voted to ban a new social studies curriculum over its inclusion of gay rights pioneer Harvey Milk.

The board president was heard during the meeting referring to Milk as a “pedophile.”

At Saticoy Elementary School in North Hollywood, controversy over a scheduled Pride event came to a head Friday morning when parents on both sides of the issue squared off in dueling demonstrations that turned violent.

Supporters and opponents of a Pride Month assembly gathered outside the school with city and school police stepping in to separate the sides.

Officers were on the scene to "facilitate a peaceful and lawful exercise of constitutional rights," the Los Angeles Police Department said on Twitter.

California’s ambitious and expensive plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from landfills may itself be headed for the trash heap.
